Every year before marriage I remember no matter what the festival was as neighbours, sweet preparation was a group effort. During Diwali my mum would help the neighbours and during Christmas they would come over to help us. This would go on till late in the night.😊
Of course I don’t have the help here from neighbours and am sometimes lucky to get help from hubby dearest and my sons. Now I’m sharing with you all the recipe of Shankar Pali (which for us as kids were munchies a bit sweet).
- 3 cups Maida/All purpose flour
- 1/2 cup ghee
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt (to taste)
- Oil for deep frying
Method: Mix all the ingredients together and knead it to form a dough. Cover with a damp cloth and keep aside for about 1 hour.
Roll out and cut into diamond shapes. Make an entire batch and then only heat the oil on sim fire. Fry till golden brown. Cool on a butter paper and when cooled completely store in an airtight container.
Notes: 1. As I had written this recipe down many eons ago I’m unsure of whether I had copied my mum’s recipe or my ex-colleague Armando’s recipe.
