I received a request for 1 of my friends for a curry recipe. So I’m sharing with you all, my mum’s delicious coconut fish curry recipe. Very flavourful, simple and tasty.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 coconut grated
- 1 tsp. geera
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 6 kashmir chillies and 3 bedki chillies
- 3 garlic flakes ( Indian garlic)
- 1 small lemon size tamarind ball soaked for 1/2 hour. (Seeds discarded)
- Water as required
- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- 3 green chillies cut slant
- 1 medium Tomato finely cut
- 2 sprigs curry leaves
- 1 kg. Any firm white fish (I’ve used kingfish)
- Salt to taste
- Oil as required
Grind the above mentioned ingredients from 1-5 and enough water to form a paste for the 1st two times. After grinding the masala twice add the tamarind to the masala and grind with a little more water to form a smooth paste. In the meanwhile chop your onion, tomatoes and green chillies. Wash the curry leaves and separate the leaves.
In a non-stick vessel add oil, add the finely cut onions and saute well till translucent. Add the slit green chillies and fry for 1 minute. Now add the tomatoes and fry till mushy. Add the masala and fry for 3 minutes. Add water as required (1/2 cup at least and wash the masala from the mixer. Add this water from the mixer and more water as per thickness you require the curry to be. Let the masala boil now, slowly introduce the fish slices and cook for around 3 minutes. Before switching off the gas add the curry leaves and adjust salt. Taste the curry. To check whether you fish is ready swirl the vessel. Switch the gas off and relish it as an accompaniment to rice, chappatis or bread.
Will make the fish curry as per your mum’s delicious fish curry recipe, will comment on the curry later.
